Louisiana Drivers: Worst in the Nation?

Chris Medine • Jan 17, 2014

In December, CarInsuranceComparison.com granted Louisiana the distinction of being the state with the worst drivers in the country for the second year in a row. According to the report, Louisiana ranked within the top 5 for a number of categories, including speeding and careless driving. For those who must travel Louisiana highways on a daily basis, these findings may not come as a shock. After all, congested roadways and distracted drivers seem to continuously lead to accidents and major delays.

Among the various rankings, Louisiana reportedly came in ninth for fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles, as well as 12th for drunk driving violations. Finishing out the top 10 were South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Montana, and North Dakota. Not surprisingly, many of these states also have the distinction of carrying some of the nation’s highest auto insurance premiums. Louisiana holds the second place title on that particular list.

Although we’re sure you’re already a cautious driver, understanding that Louisiana roads and motorists are particularly dangerous means that you should take extra caution. Obey all traffic laws and be aware of happenings on the road around you. While we often aren’t pleased that Louisiana ranks at the bottom of many lists, this is certainly one time that we’d prefer not to be at the top!

Of course, if you do fall victim to a careless Louisiana driver, you can take comfort in knowing that there are honest, local experts to help get you and your vehicle back on the road.
