Disclosure May Be Coming To A Body Shop Near You

Chris Medine • Apr 10, 2015

The battle of aftermarket versus original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts moves to the Louisiana State Capitol with the opening of the 2015 Legislative session and as a result, disclosure may be coming to a body shop near you. Louisiana State Senator Bob Kostelka proposes a bill that forces repairmen to disclose when they are not using OEM parts.

Bob Kostelka (R Monroe) is proposing Senate Bill 77 which states that “the repairman shall provide the customer with a Consumer Auto Body Repair Disclosure form. The form shall be a separate standardized document and printed in at least ten-point type.”

Here is an example of a standardized form:

The proposal calls for the customer to sign and date the form and for the repairman to keep the completed form for two years after the work is completed. It also states that any shop in violation of the disclosure can be fined up to $1000.
